Giving Back to our Communities

Every year, employees of Emera Utility Services donate their time and money to charitable organizations and worthy causes in our communities.

Good Neighbour Program

Through our Good Neighbour Program, EUS and our employees work to create positive change in Nova Scotia. The program supports and fosters community-based organizations across the region. Employees can sign up for payroll deductions with funds going to the charity(s) of their choice. A percentage of employee donations are matched by EUS.

Jubilee Park Natural Playground

In Bridgetown, Nova Scotia, EUS crews and our friends from ACL took some time off from their hard work at the Digby Wind Farm to bring a safe, environmentally-friendly eco-park to life. The Jubilee Park Natural Playground was built in 2010 in less than two months. In November 2010, the park was honoured by Recreation Nova Scotia as the recipient of theBluenose Achievement Award. The award is presented to volunteers or community organizations to recognize outstanding achievements in the improvement of recreation/leisure opportunities.

Other

Habitat for Humanity
Several employees have donated their time to Habitat for Humanity projects. The experiences have been personally rewarding for the employees, andalso provided team-building opportunities with co-workers. Recently, employees helped complete renovations to the Barry House for Women in downtown Halifax.

Bust a Move 2011
Five EUS employees participated with the Emera Heart & Minds team and raised over $9,000 for Breast Cancer Awareness. On March 26th, these employees took part in 6 hours of exercise, including Zumba, yoga, aerobics and a dance routine created and presented by Paula Abdul. EUS employees supported fundraisers by donating their recyclables and participating in pot luck lunches for a small fee.

Earth Day Clean-Up
In contribution to Earth Day, EUS office employees annually get together to clean up the facility yards. All locations in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia participate in the clean-up.
